Rossi making up for Lost Time with La Viola
Striker, Guiseppe Rossi, is enjoying life at Fiorentina having finally banished the injuries that have blighted his career to date, and is back to looking more like the player that led a host of top European sides to form an orderly queue to retain his services.
Once captured, he was such a prized-asset that his current club supposedly inserted a £30m release clause within his contract – a move that, should his present form continue, may end up appearing somewhat modest.
Since the start of the new season, Rossi has been in the form of his life in front of goal, gaining plaudits from Betfair writers. The player recently missed 18 months of first team action at Villarreal because of back-to-back cruciate ligament injuries.
Since his first strike – the opening goal in a 2-1 victory against Catania – he has pilfered two more with a brace against Genoa. This impressive haul with only three games having been played in this season’s Serie A means that Rossi is currently Fiorentina’s top-scorer, ahead of Mario Gomez.
One expert in particular, former Fiorentina boss, Emiliano Mondonico, has this week spoken of his pleasure at seeing his old club boasting such talent in attack, and believes that the pair will be a great success:
“Fiorentina did really well on the transfer market… the Gomez-Rossi partnership is the best matched in the whole championship. I’m sure that they will be the most prolific pairing by the time the season ends.”
Having finished last season in fourth-place, Fiorentina will undoubtedly be targeting a spot in the top three this year in order to enjoy Champions League football – and the latest European odds on the betfair website suggest they have a fair shot – but can Rossi stay fit long enough to fire them there?
