Prandelli can’t wait for Rossi’s return
Italy manager, Cesare Prandelli, has revealed that his ideal striking partnership would be Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Balotelli.
Illness prevented Prandelli using Rossi for Friday’s friendly international against Germany but it is hoped that the Fiorentina star will have recovered from his bug to feature in the next game against Nigeria for which there will be live football commentary on the bet365 website.
“Those two together are exactly the attackers I would like, and that’s why it’s a shame I couldn’t try them out against the Germans,” Prandelli told RAI Sport.
Rossi, who has scored 11 league goals for Fiorentina this season, missed the Germany game because of influenza and tonsillitis, his place being taken by Southampton striker Pablo Osvaldo.
“In my mind Balotelli is a centre-forward, while Rossi is someone who can play behind him, but there’s no reason why they can’t switch positions. However, I need to see how they adapt to each other’s play on the pitch,” Prandelli added.
“They’re the type of striker that is in vogue in modern football: they don’t offer the opposition any points of reference.”
At the start of the campaign, there had been little football betting interest in Rossi being Serie A’s leading scorer as he only returned to action this season after knee injuries kept him out of the game for almost two years.
Meanwhile, controversial AC Milan star Balotelli has endured a difficult start to the season and has already been suspended twice in the first 12 games. The inconsistent Rossoneri are languishing in tenth place, with former Inter Milan and Manchester City striker Balotelli only having three goals to his name this term.
He attempted to strike a cameraman when the Italy team arrived in Naples ahead of their 2-2 draw with Armenia in October.
